Beginners who join us for our regular Wednesday meetings will find a tried and true set of first carvings that will guide them on their journey. To start with, you’ll lear basic knife techniques carving the stylized penguin.
You’ll begin with a blank. Round the corners and begin to define. Learn stop cuts to create the wings. And voila!
Next come the hummingbirds, where you’ll refine the skills you’ve learned and try your hand at working with gouges.
Finally you will move on to the otter, where all you have learned culminates in a piece you’ll be proud to share. From here you can let your imagination run wild as your skills improve with each new piece. What will you choose to make next?
